My painting - intentionally left untitled - is a work in oil on canvas, abstract with few figurative details, a gentle but distinct vertical linear movement and strong decisive color. Its source is my spirituality, the wellspring of my creative life. Line and color convey the transitions form one state of being to the next, the passage from life to death and beyond. For me, color is the most powerful means of expression- I use color to reveal emotion and I want the viewer to feel the energy and impact of the color. The outlines of figures at the top are bathed in light - Mi Gente (\" My People \") - yes, they experience suffering and uncertainly but also glorious moments of fervor, connected to love and faith - the brighter colors signifying light and life. Deeper colors connote fear and sadness, the descent into death, and the afterlife by a return to a lighter palette.
